Date.com has over 10 million members

In a recent press release, Date has announced that it has over 10 million members and is growing at a pace of roughly 250,000 members a MONTH. The large matchmaking service is rightfully proud, as that is an amazing number of members, and an equally astounding rate of growth, arguably the fastest of all the online dating websites.

Simply amazing. Date of course then goes on to list reasons to explain their success such as easy navigation, and advanced searching tools, but I think they should just let the numbers talk for themselves!

MySpace not the place for dating

Aside from being the easiest and possibly largest internet predator stalking grounds on the net, due to the ability to make fake accounts without even having to confirm an e-mail, MySpace is just a headache.

Most users actually don’t use it for dating. It’s a site for the clash of egos, where the main goal is an obsession with adding friends who usually turn out to be spam robots and various small time music bands, or viral video spammers, looking to advertise themselves.

If you want a dating service where you can actually know who you are dating, all paid services at the very least know the name, credit card info, and address of users, which creates a liability for stalkers. To top it off many matchmaking services, such as True.com, actually screen users for criminals and married men. Wheras MySpace? That 22 year old hunk from fresno, just might be a 57 year old austrian named Hans.

“Match.com estimates it has inspired millions of relationships.”

As a way of gaining new customers no less, online dating behemoth Match.com has proclaimed that it “inspired” millions of relationships. Normally I would be skeptical, but if you look at the math they are probably right.

Match.com currently has 15 million registered members, and of those, it would definitely be within the realm of possibility to assume 2 or 3 million have met and started a meaningful relationship. I personally have a formerly divorced relative who found a new mate on Match.com and got married, and think it would be within the realm of possibility to assume anywhere near a hundred thousand such marriages have taken place, granted the more recent nature of online dating means a majority of inspired marriages will show up years down the road. Still, no one can deny the connecting power of Match.com and other online dating services.
